Meet the author

I'm Joseph Colfer, an artist, illustrator and children's book author based in West London.

I've always loved creating art, experimenting with everything from watercolours and pastels to digital illustration. My work is inspired by nature, music, travel and everyday life, often combining colour, texture and expressive linework.

Alongside my creative work, I'm a primary school teacher. My experience in education inspired me to write and illustrate my first children's book, Birch's Journey, exploring themes of belonging and self-acceptance.

Through my illustrations and stories, I hope to share a little of what inspires me and connect with others through creativity.

CPD

As an educator, I can see the value and potential that the story has. Joseph delivered a workshop to my year 4 class, and they loved it!

Mr Grey (Year 4 teacher)

★★★★★

The children were fully engaged throughout the workshop and absolutely loved it. It opened up important conversations around anti-bullying and helped them understand how words can shape the way we see ourselves. The session also provided plenty of thoughtful prompts, which made it easy to extend the learning into our own independent activities in the classroom.

★★★★★

I really enjoyed the workshop because all the activities were fun, creative, and engaging. The story was so interesting, and I especially loved the illustrations because they helped bring everything to life and made it easier to imagine the scenes. The book also had lots of meaningful lessons to learn from. One of my favourite parts was recreating a scene from the story, which made the experience even more interactive and memorable.
